Drabble Challenge #34

Prompt: green

part 2 of the Savannah Sonnets series: Savannah Sonnets


We’re green throughout the year here in Savannah—the live oaks, the Spanish moss, the palms—so ‘greening’ is not really a sign of spring’s arrival.

But ‘pinking’ is.

First, there are tell-tale buds in sunny spots—like on the south sides of houses. They burst into neon pink flowers and are soon joined by their shade-dwelling sisters.

Next come the more delicate, pale pink variety, slowly emerging as the sun coaxes them open.

Before too long the city is covered in blossoms of all shades of pink as the azaleas perform their annual spectacle.

It is far too brief…
