‘Well I…’ I begin, knowing her red-headed temper and her completely justified feelings of abandonment. ‘I was gone for awhile… I had other responsibilities…’

‘You have responsibilities to US too, you know!’ she admonishes me. I wonder HOW I can see the fire in the eyes of a voice in my head. ‘You’ve been home for four days now—and you’ve been doing OTHER writing!’

‘You know how competitive I am,’ I think-reply, ‘as bad as you!’
