Drabble Challenge #74 [Alternate]

Prompt: paranoid/paranoia

"I can’t believe my first great-grandchild is going to be… half black…" she sighed.

"Mom!" her son objected.

"You don’t understand," she wailed. "I’ve been listening to these rednecks all my life! What would Daddy say?"

"Grandpa’s beliefs weren’t very enlightened," he admitted. "He wasn’t at all happy when Kelly married Ravi."

"No…" his mother muttered despondently.

"But, like it or not, the family’s already changed," her son reminded her. "Mark married a Catholic, Susan married a Jew…"

"I know, but…"

"And at family reunions," he couldn’t resist adding, "you can’t swing a cat without hitting two or three lesbians…"
