Drabble Challenge #5

Prompt: passages

part 2 of the Wilder Investigations series: The Way Out

The shadow doggedly pursued the scented trail through the dank, moist passages. The two hated humans had driven it from its chosen receptacle hours ago and as its dark, eldritch strength returned, the malevolent entity sped up, following the interlopers' scent as it grew stronger and stronger. It sensed a shout and raced toward its prey. The smaller one paused at the exit with the burning sunlight almost protecting him, when a hand grabbed the smaller one's shirt and jerked him out of the cavern to safety.

It would have had them if they had only paused at the entrance!
