Drabble Challenge #77

Prompt: recovery

Her family stood vigilantly around her bed, waiting for the doctor in his blood-splattered scrubs to speak.

“Is there anything that can be done?” her father pleaded.

The doctor wiped his bloody fingers on his coat and said, “I’m afraid not, once the virus has taken hold, there is no chance of recovery.”

Her father looked at his once beautiful daughter and sobbed, “What do you recommend we do?”

“In a case like this?” the doctor asked thoughtfully. “I say eat her brains, I’m sure it’s what she’d want.”

Her family looked at her now living flesh and silently agreed.
