Unlike the others, this deer LOVED "deer season". The best part was watching the eager anticipation in their eyes morph into gradually-comprehending terror. The dramatic shift in their energy, as they realised their demotion from predator to prey, ignited his hunger and passion.
He did well for himself year-round, he supposed; while other deer barely placated their growling bellies with bits of bark and greenery, he feasted like a king on their unsuspecting cervine flesh. But, it was this time of year that really proved him head-and-antlers above the rest!
The woods were filled with hunters...
...and they were delicious.
