Cathy looked up from playing, as her granny's dog came up and starting sniffing her hand.
"Granny?" she called out.
"Yes, child?"
"Does your dog bite?"
"No."
Cathy smiled and reached out to pet the dog, which promptly growled and bit her hand.
While tending Cathy's wound, her granny said, "Hush crying, child. You just learned two of the most important things you'll ever learn about life."
Cathy wiped her eyes and looked up at her granny, confused.
"Everything bites, and everyone lies."
The only lesson Cathy really learned that day was that her granny was a bitter old woman.
