"But it’s… it’s too much for you to hold us both," I muttered, my eyes wet, but not from the surrounding deluge. "And it’s too painful. I… I don’t want that for you…"

"I’ll hold us both for awhile," he began gently, as I clung to him, "and when I don’t have the strength, you will hold us up. That’s what being partners is all about."

"Y-yes…" I agreed, taking a deep breath and looking into his own tear-stained eyes. "And it’s OUR pain, isn’t it… yours AND mine? Together we can survive this."
