Death by Fire!

There once was a man, who was tried as a spy.
He was convicted of treason, and then sentenced to die.
He had a sweet wife,
Who begged for his life.
Though a long shot, she felt she must try.

"A spy he is not. You must believe.
Please set him free. Allow us to leave."
The court said no way,
They granted no stay,
So he will die late this eve.

Though his situation was dire,
He just held his head higher.
Each soldier picked up a gun.
They aimed one by one.
Then they were commanded to fire!
