Drabble Challenge #48

Prompt: spooky

A spray of dirt sailed up and out of the hole and rained among the silent tombstones and monuments as they stood vigilant under the moonless sky. Steve’s shovel cut through the moist dirt and found the solid lid of the coffin. The young man scraped the soil away from the lid and shifted his lantern closer. With a nod, he reversed his grip on the shovel and tapped. After only a slight pause, an answering tap was returned. Steve sighed and mumbled as he resumed digging, “Next time you decide to die, Dad, get Sis to dig you up.”
