The Box

Exploring a cave near Athens, he picks up a dust-covered object. In the dim light he could make out the form of a small box with bumps on it. Taking it outside into the bright sun, he blew the dust off and found the bumps were really cabochons of amethyst.

“An ancient box covered with amethyst….NO, this cannot be!” he exclaimed. “Pandora was only a myth. She didn’t really exist.”

He opened the lid. A small puff of dust, but otherwise the box is empty. “I was right!” he thought to himself. And then the sky turned dark…
