Looks Can Be Deceiving

“Honey? Honey, wake up.”

“Huhhh,” Nick slurs. “We were in the car… there was an accident… you and Katie died…”

“Shhh,” she says, “You’ve just had a bad dream. We’re all right here.”

The door to the room opens and a freckle-faced girl bounds in. “Good morning, Daddy!”

Nick sits up. “Wow… that was the most realistic dream I’ve ever had!”

Looking up from his monitor, the technician calls the doctor over. “Sir, he’s awake.”

The doctor points to the screen. “How is the implant working?”

“Perfectly. He doesn’t have any clue his family is dead and he’s a quadriplegic.”
