We make our way across soft sand in the darkness, then stop at the place where the sea meets the land. I can feel your hand in mine as the rippling waters caress my toes.
Your fingers tighten around mine, so I turn to look at you. I think you’re smiling, but in this pre-dawn gloom I can’t see well enough to know for sure.
My gaze returns to the east where first fingers of light are reaching above the waves, bringing us this new day.
I look at your face once more. This time I can see your smile.
