The Sins of the Species

Without warning, the Dregani strike force swooped in and surrounded the small refugee camp.

After a moment of uneasy silence, one man stepped forward to speak for everyone. "Please... We are not fighters; our homes were destroyed by the war. We are no threat to you."

The strike leader hissed, "We've heard this before, human. We mean you no harm, your kind said. We won't hurt you." He drew back his lip, exposing his lower mandible ridge - the Dregani version of a snarl. "We believed those words once. Never again." He raised his arm, signalling his troops.

"But--"

"Die, murderers!"
