Rodeo

Ellen guided the bull-cumulus with her knees, as she herded the heavy, rain clouds back to her family’s ranch. She and Old Dunderhead had roamed far across the plain’s skies to find this untouched herd. They were parked over some cottonwoods, shading the trees from the sun. A loud rumble shook her. To the South an angry alpha thunderhead saw them and was giving chase across the prairie. Sick to her stomach, she knew what she had to do. She freed most of the herd. Better to lose some than the farm. That cloud had cyclone written all over it.
