The early morning sun was already almost unbearable. Charlie planted his shovel in the soft dirt and wiped the stinging sweat from his brow with a grimy hand. With sad, but wiser eyes, he peered down into the hole where the chain-wrapped coffin rested. He reverently removed his ever-present chapeau and let fall a single tear signifying love lost.
“CHARLIE!!” screeched from within the coffin. “Your sniveling soul belongs to ME!”
Charlie frantically grabbed the shovel and dumped the loose soil back into the hole, muffling the loud shrieks and curses. This was one treasure that needed to stay buried.
