Drabble Challenge #83

Prompt: lie

“Don’t do it,” Clay says.

“Why not? It’s just a machine,” replies Andy.

“He wants to rest eight hours at night,” Clay answers. “There’s no telling what he’ll do if you wake him early.”

“Quit calling it ‘he’. Just because the engineers named it ‘Bert’ doesn’t mean it’s like us.”

Clay pleads, “Don’t do anything stupid, okay?”

“Okay.”

Two hours later Clay is awakened by alarm klaxons. Looking at the status panel in his room, he reads “YOU WERE WARNED – EMERGENCY DECOMPRESSION INITIATED”

“I guess it’s a good thing I decided to sleep in my spacesuit,” he says to himself.
