"You can choose amongst pre-loaded DNA, or have your own extracted," the doctor explained to the couple, as they approached the machine. A young man rose eagerly to greet him. "Your timing's excellent--there's one on the way right now."
A large canister thundered down through the machinery; the doctor crouched to retrieve it.
"Why the metal can?"
"It's padded, to protect its contents from damage during transport." He grinned conspiratorially at them. "We also thought it was kind of retro and fun."
The doctor peeled open the lid, beaming as he delivered the infant to her proud new father.
