My fellow Engineers,
I'd like to present a compelling revision to the designer-world template.
As the "Earth" model clearly demonstrates, selecting 'competitive survival' as the driving force maintains resident life forms in a state of constant threat--forcing them to remain externally-focused. "What are the other creatures doing? What are they thinking about me?" Consequently, they're frequently aggressive, and sacrifice individuality for self-preservation.
That mindset prevents them from ever achieving a truly insightful state of being. It also breeds a punishment-based society, on every level.
Therefore, I propose a major modification:
What if the planet were both vegetarian, and asexual?
