I wake abruptly,
with my throat sweltering.
There is a molten fluid,
flowing viciously through my airways!
My eyes water,
and my eyesight fails.
I gasp for air,
but only the blistering liquid enters into my lungs.
I regurgitate a putrid smelling acid,
through my nose and mouth.
I fear as I may soon die,
so I pray, “Lord, make it stop!”
I try to speak,
but my voice is silent.
One final gasp,
and my breathing returns.
Though the GERD attacks will return again,
I still thank God.
Now that this one has passed,
I will live another day!
