The man wearing the bright red tie stood alone for a moment. Around him frenzied activity continued, but he closed his eyes, concentrating on the inner voice that had guided him through the long campaign.

It had been a rigorous and sometimes very frustrating fight to get to this moment. Occasionally he had wondered why he even wanted to take on such a burden. It was a thankless job, and many would be watching critically for any missteps.

He squared his shoulders and opened his eyes, knowing that change had to start somewhere.

He walked out to face the nation.
