A Gift Before Dying

“I’m sorry, but you’re too late,” the doctor told Mark as he walked into the room.

“NOOOO!” he wailed. He walked up and looked at her cold, lifeless body. Lifting her head gently in his hands, he cried out, “My Abby, my dear sweet Abby!” Then turning to the doctor again he asked, “Wasn’t there anything you could do for her?”

“No, son, I’m afraid not. But, all is not lost.”

“Not lost? Abby’s dead!”

“Yes, but she was able to give birth just before she died. We have her five kittens in the next room, and they’re doing fine.”
