A Loss of Senses

I listen attentively but I hear nothing.
I look cautiously but I see nothing.
I eat ravenously but I taste nothing.
I touch gently but I feel nothing.
I sniff deeply but I smell nothing.

Am I asleep or am I awake?
Am I here or somewhere else?
Am I alive or am I not?

I begin to panic.
I can not breathe!
I tremble with fear.
I can not be still!

My rationale has left me!
My mind has left me!
Sanity has left me!
Security has left me!
I must remain calm!!

Is this real or my imagination?
