The small cardboard box floated lazily out into Lake Superior, adrift on a thick slab of ice broken from the encrusted shoreline.
Had anyone found it, they would have claimed it empty...but this was not so.
Before the thaw melted its makeshift raft, leaving the soft cardboard to sink and dissolve into the sea (and returning its contents to the void from whence they originally sprang), this box had been filled with a host of undesirable passengers: all the angers, fears, and unproductive methods of one who had decided it was time to move on and let them go.
