Crash

The people, noise, lights and bubbly drinks excited her. She hadn’t actually been invited to the party, but that didn’t matter. She loved the rush she received from a room full of happy strangers. A fascinating conversation or stimulating new friendship may lie just moments away in such an environment.

As she took a step forward, eager to join the crowd, the toe of her shoe caught the rug. The sound of her body breaking through the delicate veneer of an antique end table was audible throughout the house. As concerned faces gathered around, her hope collapsed as tears appeared.
