Both boys looked on dismally as the ball sailed the neighbor's fence.
"Aw, you can do it. You're fast and anyhow, look at him. He doesn't have any bite in him."
From all appearances, this was likely true. The big rottie, snoozing peacefully under a tree, didn't seem any threat. Glancing uneasily back over his shoulder, Jon scaled the fence and made a run for it.

"OW! DAMN it!" Jon vaulted the barrier in under a second, ball in hand and dog hot on his heels.
"Sorry, dude. He looked so innocent, just lying there."
"Yeah. Well, sleeping dogs LIE!"
