Looking up at the blue spring sky
And the vivid greens of Live Oaks
Feeling the warm Southern sun
On my arms, legs, face…
Hearing the melodious birdsong,
Punctuated by the screeching of squirrels
Smelling the blooming wisteria,
The wet dirt from last night’s rain
These pleasures are simple,
But oh, so precious to me
They connect me with myself
And to the world around me
Taking the time to look,
To touch, to hear, to smell
The abundance that is our Earth
Our teacher, our mother, and our home
Lying in the park on this Earth Day
I celebrate
