Drabble Challenge #65

Prompt: late

She rejected my proposal. I was devastated, but I must admit that I wasn’t completely surprised. We went our separate ways. She settled down with an old flame, had a kid, and bought a house. She grabbed the American dream, choked it, and ran. I took my injured heart, bandaged it with canvas and sound until it resembled a healthy working muscle again.

She surfaced today, exhausted by her dream. The light of convention can be disappointingly dim. Sadly, sometimes the path on which you might imagine yourself flourishing, is blocked with the unfortunate message: you are simply too late.
