The artist began his project. His medium: chalk. His canvas: the street.
He worked quickly, but with precision. He first drew the outline of a gaping hole and filled it in with black. He then chose colors that matched the pavement stones. He drew the masonry pointing downward as if the street had suddenly collapsed. He then added bodies climbing out of the gaping hole. Damned souls, escaping hell.
He heard thunder. The rain would come shortly and wash his work away. He gathered his tools and chalks and stashed them in a watertight satchel, waiting for a dry day.
