Drabble Challenge #108

Prompt: danger

Matt and Charlie carefully lurked down a hallway, shining their torchlights ahead. Suddenly, an apparition appeared, looking like a man with rotting flesh, wearing tattered clothes covered with tarlike bloodstains.

"Danger ahead," it moaned. "Turn BAAAAAACK!"

Matt stepped forward. "What are you doing," asked Charlie in a strained voice. "The ghost said to turn back!"

"Didn't you ever watch Scooby-Doo?" replied Matt. "It's always some hidden projector designed to scare off the locals." He took another step and suddenly fell. He then found himself surrounded by the decaying corpses of others who ignored the ghost's warning.

"Or not," he mumbled.
