The unkempt Ravers moved silently among the smoking rubble, among the dead and dying, collecting anything of value off the corpses and the wounded. A muffled noise caught the attention of a younger, wild-eyed corsair and he spun and hurried to a hodgepodge of piled lumber. A ragged sob escaped from the pile and the young raider kicked with his boots and levered with his sword to move the lumber aside. He pulled a girl, barely in her teens, from the pile and shoved her onto the muddy ground.
She closed her eyes as the sword descended, blade brightly gleaming.
