Matt allowed the boat to quietly coast to a stop several yards from the landing. Perplexed, AJ leaned forward and whispered, “Why have we stopped?”
Matt took the paddle and pointed at the water that separated them from the safety of the moonlit shore. Curious, AJ carefully slid her bare feet into cold, oily water that sat in the leaky bottom of the boat. She grabbed Matt’s shoulder as she stood and peered at the dark, smooth water. AJ gave a quiet gasp as her eyes adjusted. Red hair and pale bodies quietly waited underwater in the shallows for them.
