Drabble Challenge #51

Prompt: 2010

“Are you gonna get it?”

Rich ignored his little brother’s question. The balsawood flier was impressive and he’d finally mowed enough lawns to almost afford it.

“I can’t,” he said as he picked it up, “I don’t have enough money. All I’ve got is $20.”

“How much does it cost?” Little Jeff asked.

“$18.78 plus tax,” Rich said.

“How much is the tax?” Jeffy asked.

“$1.32,” Jeff said remembering last week’s conversation with the store owner.

“How much more do you need right now?” Jeffy asked impatiently.

“Another dime,” Rich answered.

“I’ve got a dime,” Jeffy said. “Let’s buy it.”
