Drabble Challenge #100

Prompt: century

He'd been dead for over a century.

At least, that's what he hoped went down in history..."missing but presumed alive" for a century wasn't very feasible, now was it?

Still, it was always a risk to go back. Places kept such dreadfully accurate RECORDS anymore! But oh, how he missed her: his sweet Providence, with her rambling streets, elegant and personable old houses; the tree-lined drives, the terrace overlooking the river. She was HIS city--and he'd waited long enough.

Damn this never-ending curse, he brooded. Fools who daydreamed of immortality, should be punished by having to live it.
