So, about that romanticised view of the 'natural order of things'...
Baloney. NATURE kicks you when you're down.
Think about it. When you become compromised, here comes everything under the sun: parasites, diseases, infection, weakness--in a vicious feedback loop.
You can experience one hindquarter eaten by a lion, and your pain sensors haven't the courtesy to shut off.
Be glad you're somewhat removed: being human is all about second chances! Excepting the occasional asshole-you-thought-was-your-friend, most folks are more likely to help you back on top, than consume your organs with opportunistic glee.
