Drabble Challenge #46 [Alternate]

Prompt: fear

Our cats were traumatized even before we sold our house, and today we had to travel for over two hours.

As another mournful howl emanated from behind my seat I hoped they wouldn’t express their anxiety the whole trip.

"This has become a major problem," I sighed. "They’re acting like it’s the greatest tragedy of their lives."

"Maybe it is," my partner replied. "Their routine’s been disrupted and hasn’t improved in months." He gave the fully-loaded cargo area behind us a quick glance.

Suddenly, a decorative wrought iron butterfly shifted position, making a loud noise, followed by more panicked meows.
