When I blink,
the ocean appears,
showing its sunken ships and lost treasures.
With my eyes open,
I gather pixilated images
of the queen herself:
A vessel like none before her.
In those moments between eye and lid,
fear laps at me.
It is greater than the Greeks believed.
Through satellites and fiber optic cables,
I have begun my work
as topographer,
delineating a colossal new world.
Will her mast, hull timbers, and rudders
Hold out ,
through the hurricanes and tempests?
Every ship has flaws.
I’m keeping careful vigil over this craft,
its treasure irreplaceable.
She ferries my heart.
