Drabble Challenge #67 [Alternate]

Prompt: cold

On that cloudy day in July I awoke shivering. I pulled a quilt onto the bed, but couldn’t relieve the coldness in my body.

I rose to put water on for some tea. Surely a warm beverage would do the trick. Maybe I could even try to eat some toast, although my stomach didn’t seem willing.

As I waited for the water to boil I went into the half bath off the kitchen.

I wailed when I saw the blood.

Now I knew the overwhelming coldness for what it was. There had been a baby, but now it was gone.
