Drabble Challenge #69 [Alternate]

Prompt: remember/remembrance

It was a challenging life from the beginning. We were homeless when I was born, so my siblings and I had to grow up fast and live by our wits. Sadly, two sisters didn’t make it, but I survived the "mean streets" of Savannah, Georgia.

For awhile, anyway…

Quite a while, actually, over a year—which in what they call "cat years" is a good long time. They caught me though, finally, and I endured my "unfortunate incarceration."

THAT was a frightening experience, let me tell you! They even did something to "fix" me… But honestly, now I feel broken.
