Drabble Challenge #82 [Alternate]

Prompt: water

The last thing I saw before losing consciousness was the blue water
The azure Aegean a more pleasant sight than my swarthy barbarian assailant
I remember feeling no physical pain, only my blinding rage and sadness
Despondency over losing the men I’d loved so dearly, each as much as the other
Regret that our two young children would never grow to adulthood
Grief that the child still within me would never even know life
Outrage at the Ottoman invaders and also the Greeks
In my last thoughts I tried to make peace with it
Some fairy tales just end tragically
