Drabble Challenge #31 [Alternate]

Prompt: good-bye

Saddened by the news—another great man dead
Another icon of my life gone to join the others
These many who are a part of me
And I somehow, a part of them

Assassination in Dallas, continuous coverage
Pain I couldn’t understand in my parents’ faces

It happened again and again in my childhood—
Memphis, LA—Young leaders gunned down

And there was Garland
I remember the moment
Many followed…
Stars of screens, big and small
Those whose music gave life meaning

Now, just this summer,
Farrah, MJ, Cronkite,
And now Teddy…

Who’s next?
Who’s left?

Not many icons left
