Knowing When to Leave

Matt nonchalantly strolled through the curiously quiet party and smiled as he walked up to his ex-wife and their host, Mr. Striggoi. Matt winked and said, “Mr. Striggoi, do you mind if I borrow AJ for a moment?” Matt took her elbow and guided her to an unoccupied corner near the exit.

“Notice anything strange?” Matt whispered.

“No,” she answered.

“Everyone here but you and Stiggoi has red hair, blue eyes, and pale skin,” Matt answered as he waved across the room at Mr. Stiggoi.

“SO?”

“And they’re not talking,” Matt said as he grabbed her wrist and whispered “run.”
