Drabble Challenge #82

Prompt: water

Sid closed his eyes and grabbed Torquay’s pressed white shirt and stepped off into the cold Savannah River. He kept his eyes clinched, trusting his brother to lead him to the bull-voiced preacher, as they waded deeper and deeper into the running water. Their wait was not long. When the preacher asked who loved Jesus, Torquay thrust him forward. Sid went under, praying everything would be different when he surfaced. With a strong surge, Sid was forced back to the surface, the water sluicing off his face. Cautiously he opened one eye, and sighed. The beautiful spirits were still there.
