Drabble Challenge #93

Prompt: spell

"We don't have much time!" the Dukun shouted, above the howling wind." If you'd rather take your chances with the others, go now." A small group was preparing to strike out in boats, even though the nearest island was many miles away. No one moved to join them. "We are agreed? No second thoughts?"

The Dukun's daughter looked down at her hands.

"Powerful magic requires great sacrifice," her father whispered, "but we won't need them out there."

"I know."

As the sea swallowed the tiny island, the Dukun began to sing, and soon a new species danced across the waves.
